About
Kathy's first book, Hand Lettering Step by Step: Techniques and Projects to Express Yourself Creatively (Get Creative 6, February 2018), will help you to master hand lettering, brush lettering, and pointed pen calligraphy—to create lettering that’s expressive, exquisite, and romantic. After explaining the basics, Kathy explains how to combine styles, add embellishments, and even digitize lettering. More than 20 projects include wedding invitations, temporary tattoos, address stamps, metal etching, and a custom family tree. Kathy’s calligraphy has been featured on popular wedding blogs, Style Me Pretty, 100 Layer Cake and Wedding Sparrow.

ARTIST STATEMENT
Creating art is a part of me. When I was seven, I won a local art contest and my artwork was published in the local newspaper. I knew then I was an artist. But life changes and I found myself graduating with a computer science degree. After a 25-year career in Finance and IT, I began painting again as a therapeutic practice. For me, creating art feels like home. It’s the thing that makes me excited to get out of bed in the morning. It’s my happy place where I come home to myself. I started with abstract art and fell in love with the freedom of experimenting with color, texture, expressive mark-making and composition. Now I’m falling in love with portrait and representational art. I love all the subtle details of the face, body, skin and expressions. My wish is to create art that creates positive change in the world. It’s been a long time coming, but I feel like I’ve come home.
